Is a dog really man’s best friend?
One of the most popular sayings is that dog is man’s best friend. Is it true? Can man get along with out his constant companion? What is it that a dog provides that man needs so bad that it would earn him the title of best friend? I am not going to assume to have all the answers but I am willing to make a few guesses.
A dog does provide many services. The most obvious being protection and early warning system. With a loud bark (or yip) he will let you know when someone is approaching his house. With claws and teeth he can do serious damage to anyone who threatens his family. All in all a well rounded defense system, as long as you are willing to pay the vet bills.
I do believe however that there is a more important service that a dog provides for man. That service would be as a constant companion. After a hard day is there a better feeling than one can receive than the undying adoration given to you by your dog? The love and support they give you is unmatched by any human, and that is why they will forever deserve the title of man’s best friend.
