Dog training aids can sometimes help the owner more than the dog
Dog training aids are a great help to the owners most times than they are to the dogs. The more help you get training your dog the easier it is on you. Many dog owners think that all they will need is a rolled up newspaper to train their dogs. That is one way, however there are more effective ways in which to train your dog. Dog training aids are there to help the owner teach the dog acceptable behaviour. Whacking him with a newspaper may only teach him to avoid the newspaper (not always a good habit to enforce).
Dog training aids can range from a book that teaches you tricks and short cuts to training your dog to an electronic collar that administers a small shock when he barks at inappropriate moments. There are several good books on the market to help you teach your specific breed of dog, as some breeds learn more quickly than others (I heard on TV. that poodles were actually one of the smarter breeds of dogs). The electronically collars that are available are perfectly safe for your dog and will not do any damage to him. Only put the anti-barking collar on him when you don’t want him to bark. Please don’t leave it on him all the time. Dogs were designed to bark.
There are many Dog training aids available. Choose what is best for you and your dog. The aid with all the bells and whistles may not always be your best bet (the bells and whistles may distract your dog from learning). Go with what works. If you can find a book that talks about training your specific breed of dog, that would be the best for your dog. There are still many books that will point you in the right direction even if your dog doesn’t have a specific breed. Training your dog can help you to build patience and persistence not to mention a stronger bond between owner and pet.
