House training a dog of its nasty habits can be a very rewarding experience. If you know how to do it right. And there are a few things that everyone should know before they begin to try to house training a dog. First of all, no matter what, yelling at him isn’t going to change his mind about what a fun place to go pee your Oriental rug is. You must remember that not all dogs can understand English and loud English isn’t any different.

Another thing to remember when your house training a dog is that you must be consistent. You can not let him ‘get away with it’, not even once. And everyone in your house must be the same way. If even one person throws up their hands and says ‘oh well, he’s already ruined the Oriental rug, who cares about Persian couch?’ The truth is, you have to worry about. You must be consistent at all times.

The best way to properly house train your dog is to get someone else to do it. However, we don’t all have that option. There are trainers available who will be more than happy to train your dog however, they will expect you to pay them. If you can afford it, great! If not, there are many books on house training a dog. Look into buying a few. They will be able to give you many pointers on how to train properly. That way you won’t have to train him twice!
