There are many ways to go about housebreaking a dog. Most dogs do not come to you pre housebroken. It takes a lot of energy and patience to housebreak a dog. On your first attempt in housebreaking a dog you may want to be prepared for almost any reaction from your dog. Most of them do not respond well to punishment for what they believe to be a perfectly natural urge.
Always remember that when you are housebreaking a dog you must be consistent. Every time you just ‘let it go this once’ it becomes harder on you and it takes longer for your dog to understand. You must punish your dog right away and every time he has an accident, that way he knows what he is being punished for and he knows that he will be punished every time.
Housebreaking a dog can be hard and thankless sometimes. But there are many books available to help you out. They have tips and hints to improve the relationship between you and your dog. A happy dog will lead to a healthy dog. And he will be a much happier dog if he understands clearly why going on the kitchen floor is a bad idea.
